A majority of fans conveyed positive reactions based on their gameplay, specifically regarding how fighters move and feel when controlling them. While the overall reception was encouraging for the studio, there are a few improvements that must be implemented before players are able to get their hands on early access or the game’s full release.

5 Commentary

Many who have played Undisputed’s most recent beta will be aware of the commentary and its high potential during each round. The first beta featured commentary which contained more common bugs and errors. The second contained some of its own, but was much more refined and suitable. Some of these bugs consist of commentators repeating the same lines at multiple intervals, or lines that do not match up with the scenario within the fights.

Since the game is still in development and will continue to be developed once early access becomes available, this will more than likely be optimized to a standard that will maintain players’ immersion. This will be most important for the game’s career mode, as this is more of a long-term mode that will require stats and records mentioned by commentators.

4 Better Uppercut

For the most part, Undisputed is incredibly realistic and is one of the more accurate simulations of boxers’ maneuvers and abilities. Fighters have their classic and popular stances and loose movement, along with the plethora of combinations that can be thrown at opponents. Despite this, there is one main issue with the gameplay: the way uppercuts are thrown. Rather than this particular moveset being fast and efficient, it can often feel a little stiff and less beneficial, particulary when boxing on the inside..

Whether this comes down to each fighter’s style or the way developers have formed the game’s mechanics, this is one of the few complaints from fans. Seeing an improvement to this to provide a more snappy and functional uppercut, will give players a greater opportunity of landing a knockdown.

3 Add The Ability To Clinch

When in the middle of escaping opponents’ attacks when on the verge of a knockdown, there is the ability to step further and further away from the aggressor. This is juxtaposed with the opponent’s movement being hindered just enough to allow the player some freedom to move away. However, the fact that there is no ability to clinch is slightly unrealistic. A clinch system would not only be crucial to gameplay when evading a knockdown, but it is also important to gameplay.

This technique is typically seen in fights that are more technical, in comparison to fighters who are more gung-ho and more focused on power punches. Seeing this implemented within Undisputed would help push this game closer to its full potential, with many expecting to make comparisons to the Fight Night franchise from EA.

2 Crowd Noise

Ring walks and the crowd atmosphere in Undisputed have been very impressive so far, with the crowd conveying enough excitement to increase the level of immersion. Despite this, during fights, and especially when one fighter is rocked after a blow, the crowd noise feels a lot less impactful and stadium-filling in comparison to other fighting games. This is a vital part of boxing, especially in the modern day. Increasing excitement in the build-up to each fight would be beneficial in multiple areas.

Given the differences that characters will have in each of their own career modes, including their country of origin, the level of crowd noise could be reflected in the venues that they will fight in. For example, if a popular and beloved fighter is from England and the fight is located in England, the crowd noise could be much higher and displayed to advocate more for that fighter.

1 Frame Rate

This issue may be more refined for console players once the game finally releases, but may not be so stable for PC players at early access. For a majority of online matches and training, the frame rate is very stable and functional enough for the game to be playable. However, when it comes down to getting back up from a knockdown, or the rare instance of gameplay that stutters when fighting in front of a massive crowd, Undisputed’s frame rate tends to fluctuate.

This could very well be an issue that is only present for the game’s online modes, as players have not yet had the opportunity to experience single-player modes. With the plethora of feedback and information Steel City Interactive has gained from players, there is no doubt that developers will be working hard to ensure that Undisputed lives up to its high expectations.

Undisputed is in development for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
